      Positions of Responsibility: Executive Headteacher
      Declarations of Interest: None

I have been the Executive Headteacher across the Federation since September 2016 and work closely with the Governing Body to ensure that the leadership across the federation is strong and strategic. I have a Bachelor of Education Degree and have worked in seven different primary schools throughout my time in education, four of those as a headteacher. In addition, I have carried out some school improvement work with Leeds Local Authority and worked as an Associate Headteacher, supporting a school at risk.

  • Paul Spurgeon – Foundation Governor

Term of Office End Date: Ex Officio
    Committee Membership: Teaching & Learning
Positions of Responsibility: Collective Worship; Health & Safey Governor
Declarations of Interest: Rector of The United Parish of Lower Nidderdale.

It was in September 1995 that I took up the post of Rector in The United Parish of Lower Nidderdale, and, as the incumbent of the parish, I automatically became a Foundation Governor for Kirk Hammerton Church of England Primary School.
Over the years I have had much enjoyment being part of the ‘family’ of our school, always looking forward to welcoming new children into the school and seeing them grow in confidence, maturity and awareness. There is always a tinge of sadness when the children come to the end of their time at Kirk Hammerton School, but this comes together with the delight that they are progressing towards the fulfilment of their potentials as they move on to their higher education.

Education and teaching have always been my passion and I have been working as a teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL) for just over ten years. I have a Masters degree in EAL and Education from the University of Leeds and have translated a number of supplementary materials for primary and secondary schools into Russian and Lithuanian.

We have moved to the area in 2014 and feel very proud of the local community! My two children go to Kirk Hammerton school and there hasn't been a day when they would not be excited about what they do and learn at school! My aim is to be able to use my skills and knowledge to support Mrs Mellor, the staff and the governing team to ensure the happiness, growth and success of the TIG schools.

Term of Office End Date: 27/09/2024
    Committee Membership: Teaching and Learning
Positions of Responsibility: Chair of Teaching and Learning
    Declarations of Interest: Teacher.

My teaching journey started 18 years ago after completing an NVQ 3 in Support and Learning in the Primary Classroom. I supported children in Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and with Special Educational Needs (SEND) as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA); I delivered 1:1 interventions to children with SEND and delivered art and drama enrichment programmes to children in EYFS to Year 6.  As my own children 'flew the nest' and went on to university - as did I!

I completed a BA (hons) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in Primary Education at Durham University, specialising in English, English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). My educational interests are taking children's learning outside, languages, psychology, mindfulness, yoga, promoting children’s working memory and building their learning power.

I enjoy teaching holistically by developing a child's intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potentials, developing children who are life-long learners. For me, educating is empowering children and ensuring that they know that they have a voice.
